LANSING, MI-- The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has conditionally approved two permits for the Back Forty Mine Project in Menominee County’s Lake Township.
The DEQ approved Aquila Resources’ applications for a Mining Permit and a Michigan Air Use Permit to Install. The Mining Permit isn’t effective, which means no site preparation can begin until Aquila acquires all necessary permit and has provided the DEQ with required financial surety.
The company must acquire two additional permits: the National Pollution Elimination System Permit and a permit for wetland, inland lake, and stream impacts.
The project would focus on the extraction of gold, zinc, and copper. It includes a processing facility in Lake Township.
