DETROIT, MI (AP)--   Protesters have marched in downtown Detroit, calling for the U.S. Justice Department to open a criminal investigation into the shooting death of a black 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri, by a white police officer.

About 60 people chanted Tuesday afternoon outside a federal court building. The demonstration followed a Monday night vigil outside the courthouse.

The peaceful demonstrations were among several held across Michigan following a grand jury's decision Monday not to issue an indictment in Michael Brown's death in August.

National Action Network Detroit chapter President the Rev. Charles Williams calls the grand jury's action "a serious blow to justice."

The Lansing State Journal says about 100 people met around midnight on Michigan State University's campus beside a rock painted "#BLACKLIVES MATTER" and "WE STAND WITH FERGUSON."
