Cloverland happier... but not completely satisfied with SSR deal

DAFTER, MI--   The Cloverland Electric Co-op is applauding WE Energies move to terminate System Support Resource payments for the Presque Isle Power Plant, but officials say millions of dollars in payments remain on the table.

Cloverland CEO Dan Dasho says WE Energies has asked that the payments be stopped retroactive to February 1, but that still leaves $4.6 million in payments from December and January.  Dasho says War Memorial Hospital faces about $16,000 a month in payments; the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians about $60,000 a month; and FutureMark Papers in Manistique about $200,000 a month in increased costs.

Cloverland officials say they’ll continue to petition federal and state policymakers to release the co-op from any SSR payments related to the Presque Isle Power Plant.
