City of Escanaba turns 150

ESCANABA, MI--   Escanaba is getting ready to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding. 

The Daily Press reports the nonprofit Esky 150 Steering Committee is raising money to put on a sesquicentennial celebration this summer.

The Southern Upper Peninsula community was founded in July 1863.

Planned events start with a July 5 parade. A picnic, concert, water ski show and maritime festival also are planned.  Events run through July 13. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
