Chocolay Township armed robberies may be connected to Escanaba incident

MARQUETTE, MI--   Two suspects possibly linked to an Escanaba hotel robbery are jailed in Marquette.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of robberies that began around 6:15 a.m.

Tuesday in Chocolay Township.  Two men dressed in black clothing and masks entered America’s Best Value Inn on M-28 and demanded money at knife point.  The clerk, a licensed concealed pistol permit holder, refused and pointed his gun at the suspects.  The men fled on foot to a waiting vehicle, which drove south on US-41.

Around 6:20 a.m. a 911 call from Kassel’s Korner indicated two customers had been robbed by two males carrying a knife and a baseball bat.  The suspects fit the description of those at the motel and the caller provided a description of their vehicle.

A short time later the suspect vehicle was pulled over on US-41 near Heidtman Road.  Two 18-year-old males and a 22-year-old male—all from Delta County—were arrested and lodged in the Marquette County Jail.  An amount of cash was recovered.

Investigation into the case continues.  Officials say the suspects may be linked to the robbery of the Quality Inn and Suites in Escanaba Monday.  Escanaba Public Safety has been notified.
