CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI-- Fire has destroyed a semi-truck in Chocolay Township.
Around 3:45 Tuesday morning the Chocolay Township Fire Department was called on a report of smoke coming from the JB Hunt Trucking repair facility on US-41. When firefighters entered the building they were met by heavy smoke and intense heat, and found a semi fully engulfed. Once those flames were extinguished firefighters removed the ceiling above the truck, as the fire had gotten into the attic.
Officials say fire damage was kept to a minimum, but the building suffered heavy smoke damage. A second semi also suffered smoke and heat damage. Officials believe the fire originated in the first truck.
The Michigan State Police Fire Investigator is assisting Chocolay Township in determining the cause of the fire, which is believed to be accidental.
No injuries were reported.
The Chocolay Fire Department was assisted by Marquette County Central Dispatch, Sands Township Fire, Marquette Township Fire, UP Health System Marquette, and the Marquette City Police.
