Cambensy opposes Citizens United-type bills

MARQUETTE, MI--   Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 109th House seat, Sara Cambensy, is speaking out against campaign contribution bills headed to Governor Rick Snyder’s desk.

The bills would let political candidates ask for unlimited amounts of money for Super PACs. Super PACs aren’t allowed to give money to candidates or political parties, but can spend as much as they want independent of the campaigns.

At a media event in Marquette’ Wednesday, Cambensy said the bills allow more “dark money” into state politics at a time when more transparency is needed in government. She said the fact that the bills were heard, passed, and sent to the governor all on Tuesday points to a lack of bipartisanship.

Cambensy faces Republican Rich Rossway in November.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
