Body of missing woman found in Alger County

ALGER COUNTY, MI--   The search for a missing Manistee County woman has come to an unfortunate end.

The body of Malvika Deshmukh, 28, of Bear Lake was found Saturday, October 29 in Alger County.

Michigan State Police Detective Sarah Krebs says Deshmukh was near her vehicle, which was found in a remote area near the North Country Trail Head near Rock River Road on September 23.  Krebs says the cause of death is being determined, but foul play is not suspected at this time.

Deshmukh was last seen by friends September 9.  She was reported missing from Cadillac September 14.

Deshmukh was apparently hiking in Alger County while on vacation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
