Body found in Escanaba definitely that of missing woman

ESCANABA, MI--   Officials have positively identified remains found in the city of Escanaba as those of a woman reported missing in February.

Escanaba Public Safety says the remains were discovered Wednesday in an industrial area of the city along the shore of Little Bay de Noc.

An autopsy indicated the remains belonged to Jean Marie Lawrence, 56, of Escanaba.  She was reported missing February 6 at 8 p.m. from an adult foster home.

Preliminary findings for the cause of death indicate she died from exposure.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
