Bill Vajda leaving Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette’s city manager has resigned.

Bill Vajda submitted a letter of resignation to Mayor Mike Coyne at 9 a.m. Friday.  The letter read, “Please accept this letter as notice of my intent to resign the position of City Manager. I(t) has been my honor and privilege to serve."

Coyne says he only became aware Vajda intended to leave through a text message Vajda sent him Thursday evening.

According to city policy Vajda must serve 30 days from the time his resignation is accepted.  His expected last day is October 5.

The city will hold an open meeting September 8 at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall.  During the meeting a committee will be formed to select a new manager.  In the meantime, Police Chief Mike Angeli will serve as interim city manager.

Sources say Vajda is on a lists of applicants for a city manager job in Grand Traverse County.
