Bark River woman injured in car-train crash

BARK RIVER, MI--   A Bark River woman is in stable condition, following a car/train accident in Delta County. 

Sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened Wednesday around 4:15 p.m. on D Road in Bark River.  A Valley Med helicopter airlifted Karen Welch, 70, from the scene and took her to UPHS Marquette for treatment of numerous injuries. Officials say her condition has stabilized.

The accident remains under investigation. 

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Bark River Fire Department, Bark River First Responders, Rampart, Michigan State Police, the Department of Natural Resources, Valley Med Flight Services and Gene's Towing. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
