MACKINAW CITY, MI--   A baby girl has been born on ferry docks in Mackinaw City.

Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry employees said Wednesday an expecting mother and father boarded the ferry returning to Mackinaw City last week knowing the baby was on its way. They say baby Paige was born at the landing just before an ambulance arrived. An OB-GYN doctor who happened to be on board delivered her after the boat docked.

The baby was born six weeks earlier than her parents expected. She weighed four pounds, eight ounces and is now in an area hospital.

The ferry company gave the baby a "Gold Pass" so she can ride free her whole life.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
