Arts grants given to MI communities

LANSING, MI (AP)--   The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs has approved nearly $9.7 million in awards across the state.

The 422 recently announced grants are in 55 counties. The MCACA says it held 22 separate panels and used the services of 107 professionals to determine eligibility for the awards.

John Bracey, executive director of the MCACA, says in a statement that the grants "provide access to arts and cultural programing in places and to people that may not have access without the work their local arts and cultural organizations" and "provide opportunity to our children to learn about life."

Grant information is posted online.

The MCACA serves to encourage, develop and facilitate an enriched environment of artistic, creative and cultural activity in Michigan.
