MARQUETTE, MI-- The radio show of the secretary of the Marquette County Republican Party has been suspended due to inflammatory remarks he made last week.
Dan Adamini tweeted on Thursday that “one bullet stops a lot of thuggery” and posted on Facebook that “another Kent State might be the only solution” to violent protests. He was referring to the University of California-Berkeley, where students called for the cancelation of an appearance by far-right author Milo Yiannopoulous.
Four Kent State students were killed by the Ohio National Guard in 1970 during a protest of the U.S. invasion of Cambodia.
Adamini’s comments spread like wildfire across the internet and the story was ultimately reported nationally. His weekly conservative radio show on WDMJ, “In the Right Mind,” has been suspended through the end of the month while his contract is reviewed. Adamini is not an employee of the station, but offers his show on a contractual basis to any radio station that wants to carry it.
Adamini has apologized for his comments, saying he worded them poorly and was only calling for an end to the violence.
The Marquette County Republican Party says his comments are his own, and the chair of the County Democratic Party says he should resign his post.
