The Peter White Public Library invites the public to Songs of War and Peace on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, part of the Remember Vietnam series of events, in the library’s Community Room at 7:00 pm. Local singer/songwriter Corinne Rockow will lead this community sing-along. Trained and employed as a music therapist and K-8 instructor, she has worked at the Powell Township School and Northern Michigan University. Furthermore, she has performed in schools, nature centers, libraries, festivals, conferences and coffee houses across the Great Lakes region since 1984. The sing-along will feature songs of war and peace, a number from the Vietnam era. Some songs like Pete Seeger’s “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” point out the cost of war. Others like the traditional “Peace Like a River” and John Lennon’s “Imagine” emphasize the benefits of peace. A limited number of song booklets will be available. Be sure to bring your singing voices. This program is offered as part of a grant from the American Library Association, PBS, and WETA Washington, D.C. There is no admission charge thanks to sponsorship by the Friends of the Peter White Public Library. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
