Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   Forsyth Township Police arresting a suspect on a misdemeanor warrant also discovered meth components at his residence. 

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team says the 36-year-old man was taken into custody Tuesday at a home on East County Road 456. During the arrest UPSET detectives observed components associated with meth. A search warrant uncovered numerous chemicals used to make the drug.

The suspect allegedly admitted to making meth.

ISHPEMING, MI--   Authorities have discovered another meth lab in Ishpeming.

Wednesday detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team assisted Ishpeming Police when meth-related components were discovered in a residence.

City officers were conducting an investigation at the Pine Street house when they observed the meth-related items. UPSET detectives removed hazardous materials from the home.

One suspect at the residence was questioned at the scene. No arrests have yet been made.

Ishpeming Police continue to investigate the incident. 

CHASSELL, MI--   The search for a suspect wanted on outstanding warrants led police to a meth lab in Chassell. 

Wednesday detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team and a parole officer from the Michigan Department of Corrections went to a residence to find a woman who was on probation. A search of the residence uncovered components used to manufacture meth and several one-pot cooks.

The suspect is lodged in the Houghton County Jail on the outstanding warrants. Additional charges for manufacturing meth are expected.

ISHPEMING, MI--   The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team has conducted another meth bust in Ishpeming.

Detectives had been investigating suspects at a residence on East North Street for several months. They executed a search warrant Thursday and seized meth, cash, and components used to make meth. UPSET removed all hazardous waste from the house.

One suspect was questioned at the scene and released. Arrests are expected, pending a review of the case by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office.

MARQUETTE, MI--   Another suspect has been arrested in a cocaine case out of Ishpeming. 

On September 25 the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at a residence at Sunny Side Estates. Detectives seized nearly 30 grams of cocaine, a firearm, and evidence of drug distribution. They arrested Nakeesha Briggs, 34, and removed four children that were living in the home.

ISHPEMING, MI--   The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team teamed up with other law enforcement agencies Thursday for a joint patrol operation in Ishpeming.

Detectives, Ishpeming Police, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, and Michigan State Police combined their efforts because of an increase in tips relating to drug activity in the area.

ONTONAGON, MI--   An Ontonagon man is jailed for delivering meth.

Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team arrested the 43-year-old suspect Tuesday on a three-count warrant for delivery of methamphetamine.

Officials say the arrest is the result of a six-month investigation by UPSET, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Department, and Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post.

The name of the suspect is not being released at this time.

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two Negaunee Township residents have been arrested in a drug bust by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team. 

A 23-year-old woman and 22-year-old man were taken into custody at a residence on Midway Drive Tuesday. They were arrested on one count of conspiracy to deliver ecstasy and three counts of delivery of ecstasy.

UPSET detectives started an investigation into the suspects in June, when they received information the two were selling illegal narcotics.

GWINN, MI--   Two men were arrested after the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team executed search warrants at a couple of Gwinn residences Monday. 

Detectives searched the Maple Street homes and found more than 60 grams of suspected cocaine, 19 grams of suspected heroin, 5 grams of crack cocaine, marijuana, prescription pills, nearly $7,000 in cash, and evidence of drug trafficking.

The suspects, a 62-year-old man from Gwinn and a 35-year-old man from Milwaukee, remain lodged in the Marquette County Jail, pending arraignment.

ATLANTIC MINE, MI--   A Houghton County man has been arrested on drug charges, following a five-month investigation.

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team apprehended the 28-year-old Atlantic Mine man Friday for delivery of methamphetamine, delivery of heroin, and delivery of Dilaudid. 

The suspect remains lodged in the Houghton County jail. Additional charges are expected.
