MANISTIQUE, MI--   A Manistique man serving time in connection with a Doyle Township triple homicide has been sentenced on cocaine delivery charges. 

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says Kenneth Brunke, 47, was given 225 to 360 months in prison Thursday. He had pleaded no contest in March to delivery of cocaine—1,000 or more grams, conspiracy to deliver cocaine—1,000 or more grams, and delivery of a controlled substance—less than 50 grams.

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A Manistique man once suspected of murder in a triple-homicide case has been bound over to circuit court on felony drug charges.

A preliminary hearing for Kenneth Brunke, 46, was held Tuesday on three counts of delivery of a controlled substance (narcotic or cocaine)—less than 50 grams and conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance (narcotic or cocaine)—450 to 999 grams. 

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A Manistique man has been sentenced for his role in a Schoolcraft County triple murder, and has received additional charges. 

Kenneth Brunke, 46, was sentenced to 40 to 60 months in prison for obstruction of justice and lying to a peace officer. 

He has said he was not involved in the killing of Jody Hutchinson, Carrie Nelson, or Heather Aldrich, whose bodies were found in a burned-out car last April in Doyle Township.

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A suspect in the death of three Schoolcraft County residents whose bodies were found in a burned-out car has been sentenced. 

Garry Cordell, 47, was given three sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole.  He had pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and one count of felony murder for the deaths of Jody Hutchinson, Carrie Nelson, and Heather Aldrich in April.  

The victims’ families spoke at Thursday’s sentencing hearing.  They asked the judge to have no leniency.

Garry Cordell, 47, of Manistique is charged with three counts each of open murder, conspiracy to commit open murder, first-degree murder, and unlawful imprisonment in connection with the deaths of Jody Hutchinson, Heather Aldrich, and Carrie Nelson in April.

MANISTIQUE, MI--   One of the suspects in a Schoolcraft County triple homicide will undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he’s competent for court proceedings. 

The exam for Garry Cordell, 46, was granted apparently because of his history of depression and other possible mental health conditions. 

Cordell’s codefendant, Kenneth Brunke, was also granted a psychiatric evaluation. 

The third codefendant, Marietta Carlson, died while in custody this past June.

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A suspect in a triple-homicide investigation in Schoolcraft County has died. 

Marietta Carlson, 28, of Manistique faced various charges related to open murder, first-degree murder, and unlawful imprisonment in the April deaths of Jody Hutchinson, Heather Aldrich, and Carrie Nelson. 

The Schoolcraft County Sheriff's Department issued the following press release:

MANISTIQUE, MI--   State Police have arrested two more people in connection with the triple murder in Schoolcraft County.

Troopers from the St. Ignace Post say they’ve apprehended Garry Cordell, 46, and Marietta Carlson, 28—both of Manistique—on multiple charges related to the deaths of Jody Hutchinson, Carrie Nelson, and Heather Aldrich in April.  Cordell and Carlson had been held on unrelated charges prior to their most recent arrest.
