NEGAUNEE, MI--   Michigan State Police, Marquette County Central Dispatch, and the Negaunee Regional Communications Center are holding an open house this week.

Troopers say it’s an opportunity for residents to see the equipment they use on a daily basis and ask officers questions. Residents can go on a tour of the post, view Central Dispatch operations, look at displays, and watch canine demonstrations.

Representatives from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and Emergency Support Team will also be at the open house.

MARQUETTE, MI--   Hiawatha National Forest officials are holding an open house in Marquette on Saturday.

Public Affairs Officer Janel Crooks says among other things the event will feature booths about forestry, citizen science, prescribed fire, lighthouse preservation projects, and career opportunities. She says officials will also hold a listening session, which will function as a means to gather input on forest operations.

CALUMET, MI--   Michigan State Police at the Calumet Post are holding an open house Friday. 

Troopers says they’d like the public to stop in and help them celebrate the MSP’s 100th anniversary.

Specialty units—including the K-9 team, Emergency Support Team, and forensic lab—will be on site, as well as a 1957 Ford patrol car.

The open house runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the post on US-41 just south of Calumet.

Trooper Stacey Rasanen says residents can see the equipment they use on a daily basis, and officers will be available to answer home security and general safety questions.

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Michigan State Police 8th District Headquarters and forensic lab are holding an open house next week. 

The public is invited to come and help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the State Police. They can tour the facility and see what services are available, including the Emergency Support Team, Portable Crime Lab, and Hometown Security Team.

The open house will be held next Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1924 industrial Parkway in Marquette.

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   Bay College West is holding an open house for veterans this week. 

Officials say the event will celebrate the school’s new veterans’ lounge and offer information on how to enroll in classes. 

For those not interested in college, retired military officials will hold a “Resume Translator” session.  It will help translate military skill and experience that civilian hiring officials will understand and can apply to their workplace. 

All military personnel, whether active, guard, reserve or retired, are welcome.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Department of Natural Resources is holding an open house to make trails recommendations for Little Presque Isle. 

DNR staff will give a presentation on proposed plans for the non-motorized trails and provide maps for public review.  Written comments on the recommendations will be accepted for 30 days after the session.

The open house takes place Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Marquette Township Community Center.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Department of Natural Resources is holding an open house to discuss its recommendations for non-motorized trails at Little Presque Isle in Marquette County.  

DNR staff will give a presentation on the trail plan and describe the decision process.  Officials say the DNR may potentially redesign some trails or alter types of permitted trail uses to address resource protection concerns and desires for expanded recreation opportunities. 

The open house takes place Tuesday, September 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Marquette Township Community Center. 

MARQUETTE, MI--   Teachers in the Marquette Area Public Schools district will not be attending an open house scheduled for next week.  

In a press release the Marquette Area Education Association said its membership had agreed not to participate in next Wednesday’s open house prior to the opening of this school year.  It said teachers are looking forward to meeting students on the first day of school.
