TROUT CREEK, MI--   Authorities have released the identities of the two males killed in a house fire in Trout Creek over the weekend. 

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Sunday around 6:40 a.m. on Old Mill Town Road. Deputies found the bodies of David Saubert, 48, and David Saubert, Jr., 6, in the residence.

The house was a total loss. The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation.

TROUT CREEK, MI--   Two people have been killed in a house fire in Trout Creek. 

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Sunday around 6:40 a.m. to a residence on Old Mill Town Road. Officials say the house was occupied by two males—one 48-years-old and one 6-years old. Both were found dead in the residence. Their names are being withheld, pending notification of family.

The house was a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI--   Two people have been injured in snowmobile accidents in Ontonagon County. 

The Sheriff’s Office says the first happened Tuesday around 11:15 a.m. on Trail #13 near Kangas Road in Greenland Township. Randy Thayer of Lansing left the trail to climb a hill when he turned to the right and lost control of the snowmobile. It rolled over and ejected Thayer.

MASS CITY, MI--   An Illinois woman was injured in a snowmobile accident in Ontonagon County Tuesday.

Sheriff’s officials say it happened around 2:30 p.m. on Trail #3 in Mass City.

Judi Ann Young, 74, of Beloit was riding on the trail when one of the machine’s skis caught a large chunk of ice. The snowmobile overturned and ejected Young.

She was transported to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Officials say speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash. 

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI--   No injuries were reported in a crash between a vehicle and semi in Ontonagon County Friday. 

The Sheriff’s Office responded around noon to the intersection of M-38 and US-45. They say Caitlyn Zerbst of Marquette was on M-38 when she observed a semi tractor stopped at the US-45 intersection. As she approached US-45 the semi, driven by Luke Schumacher of Wisconsin—began to pull out in front of her. Zerbst tried to avoid a collision but was unable to stop in time.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage.

Schumacher was cited for failure to yield.

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI--   Two motorcycle crashes happened within minutes of each other in Ontonagon County Monday. 

The Sheriff’s Office says the first happened around 6:10 p.m. Thomas Weks of Oak Grove, Louisiana was traveling on South Boundary Road when he lost control of his bike on a curve. The motorcycle left the roadway, hit the gravel shoulder, and fell to the ground.

Weks was taken to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital for treatment.

The second accident happened about eight minutes later, also on South Boundary Road.

ONTONAGON, MI--   The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Dollar Bay man for home invasion and possession of marijuana.

Officials say the arrest initially stemmed from an identity theft complaint.

Deputies found the suspect living in a relative’s unoccupied home in Bruce Crossing. He was arrested outside the home without incident and lodged in the Ontonagon County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Troopers from the Wakefield and Calumet Michigan State Police Posts assisted in the case. 

ONTONAGON, MI--   The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a woman for drunk driving, following a two-vehicle accident in Ontonagon Sunday.

Officials say it happened around 11:30 p.m. on Houghton Street near Trap Street. A 51-year-old Ontonagon woman apparently crashed into a parked vehicle. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

The woman remains lodged in the county jail on a $100 bond.

No injuries were reported. 

ONTONAGON TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office has ticketed a driver following a crash in Ontonagon Township. 

Deputies say it happened Sunday around 3:20 a.m. at the intersection of Firesteel and Strang roads. Chad Sharkey of Chanttassen, Minnesota was pulling a trailer with an ORV on Firesteel when he lost control of the trailer while negotiating a curve. The vehicle and trailer went into the ditch and struck several small trees and a utility pole.

The vehicle was extensively damaged. No injuries were reported.

BRUCE CROSSING, MI--   A Ewen man has been taken into custody for an alleged shooting in Ontonagon County. 

Monday around 12:40 p.m. the Sheriff’s Department received a report of a possible discharge of a firearm near the Bruce Crossing Medical Clinic. Witnesses say they saw three people running from a residence. Investigation revealed a 29-year-old Ewen man fled the scene after firing a gun.
