Marquette Symphony Orchestra

Dr. Alex Jimenez will be the conductor for the Marquette Symphony Orchestra's annual Youth Concerto concert.  He serves as Professor of Conducting and the Director of Orchestral Activities at the Florida State University, and was the conductor of the “Shall We Dance?” Pops concert last season.  The youth concerto winner, Rong Sui, will perform Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto #2.  Ms. Sui is a piano major at the University of Michigan.  We spoke with Alex regarding the upcoming concert titled, "The Language of Love."

Kurt Hauswirth sat down with Concertmaster Janis Peterson, and Business Manager Tristan Luoma, of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, to discuss the "Sounds of Suomi: A World Premiere" concert, happening November 11th at the Kaufman Auditorium.  A world premiere trumpet concerto will be one of the offerings, and you can hear all about the concert here:

Kurt Hauswirth sat down with Russell Vinick, guest conductor for the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, and discussed the upcoming Pops Concert: As American as Baseball and Apple Pie.  They discussed what will be on the program, as well as talked a bit about Russell's Chicago connections and what he's seen in the Upper Peninsula thus far.

Nicole Walton sits down with MSO guest conductor Janis Peterson and composer Griffin Candey to talk about the world premiere performance of Candey's work, Bagidaabii-Neyaashi, on December 17 in Marquette.

Hans Ahlstrom previews this weekend's concert by the Marquette Symphony Orchestra with special guests guest-conductor Dr Alexander Jimenez and MSO Board President Marlene Woo-Lun

The Marquette Symphony Orchestra opens its 20th anniversary season with a concert of Russian orchestral works. Principal Conductor Jacob Chi spoke with Hans Ahlstrom about the selectionf ro the concert, including the Glazunov Violin Concerto, featuring soloist Wei Wei Le. 

The concert begins at 7:30pm Saturday, September 17 at Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette.

Maestro Jacob Chi talks with Stan Wright about the lineup of works being performed Saturday by the Marquette Symphony, including a Shostakovich symphony, Albert Ketelbey's "In A Persian Market," and two rhapsodies by Debussy, featuring local soloists.
