HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Humboldt Township man has been taken into custody, following a domestic violence incident.

State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched around 3:50 Tuesday morning to a residence, but the male suspect fled the scene on an ORV. Troopers located him north of Republic driving a Yamaha side-by-side on M-95. They arrested the 45-year-old man for operating while intoxicated and resisting and obstructing.

The suspect remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

The incident remains under investigation.

MARQUETTE, MI--    Officials have released the name of a Republic Township man arrested on a felonious assault charge. 

Xavier Gonzalez, 51, was taken into custody over the weekend after Michigan State Police executed a search warrant at a residence on M-95 near Witch Lake. He was arraigned Monday on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. The incident allegedly happened last Thursday.

Gonzalez remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.

A probable cause conference is set for June 20 in Marquette District Court.

LANSING, MI--   The state House has introduced a bill that would call a stretch of Upper Peninsula road the Representative John Kivela Memorial Highway.

The measure was introduced last week by 73 members of the House, including Representatives Sara Cambensy, Scott Dianda, and Beau LaFave. If made into law, the bill would name M-95 from the Dickinson County line north to the intersection with US-41 in Kivela’s honor.

The bill is currently in the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI--   A portion of Dickinson County highway was closed for three hours, after a semi tractor-trailer hit a utility pole. 

The crash happened Wednesday around 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of US-2 and M-95 in Breitung Township. A trooper from the State Police Post in Iron Mountain was behind a semi loaded with equipment when the semi tried to turn onto US-2. It failed to negotiate the turn, left the highway, and hit a utility pole, which pulled down the traffic lights.

SAGOLA TOWNSHIP, MI--   M-95 in Sagola Township was closed for several hours Thursday, after logs fell onto the roadway during a four-vehicle accident. 

SAGOLA TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people were injured in a traffic accident in Dickinson County 

Wednesday.

Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post say it happened around 4 p.m. near the intersection of M-95 and M-69 in Sagola Township.

A vehicle driven by Connie Cherubini, 64, of Sagola was southbound on M-95 when she attempted to turn east onto Leeman Road.  She turned into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by Cody Bednarz, 20, of Kingsford. 

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Norway woman has been injured in a single-vehicle accident in 

Dickinson County.

State Police from the Iron Mountain Post say Monday around 10 a.m. the 34-year-old woman was on US-2 near M-95 and Pine Mountain Road in Breitung Township when her vehicle left the roadway.  It slid through a grass embankment and hit a utility pole, then reentered the highway.  The driver turned onto Pine Mountain Road and hit a Dickinson County Road Commission vehicle and mobile caution light trailer.  She then left the scene. 

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Gwinn man has been injured in a motorcycle accident in Dickinson County. 

State Police from the Iron Mountain Post say it happened Thursday around 7:10 a.m. on M-95 near Old Carney Lake Road in Breitung Township.  They say Eric Ruesing, 43, was northbound when he lost control of his cycle, left the roadway, and was ejected. 

Ruesing was taken to Dickinson County Hospital for treatment. 

Troopers say Ruesing was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and alcohol was not factor.  

WITCH LAKE, MI--   A Kingsford man was ticketed Tuesday for spilling logs on M-95 in Marquette  

County. 

Sheriff’s deputies say the accident happened around noon near Witch Lake.  The 28-year-old truck driver was southbound when the pup trailer started swaying back and forth and lost its load.  No one was injured, but a Wisconsin woman trying to avoid the spill lost control of her vehicle and hit a first responder vehicle on the side of the road.  She was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions.

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI--   A load of logs spilled on the roadway when a truck overturned in Dickinson County. 

Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post say the accident happened Thursday at the intersection of US-2 and M-95 in Breitung Township.  Dale Young, 39, of Escanaba was turning east onto US-2 when the pup trailer overturned, sending logs onto the highway. 

Young was not injured and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.  Young was cited for spilling his load in the roadway.
