IRON COUNTY, MI--   Two Iron County girls reported missing after they went on an ATV ride have been found. 

Sheriff’s officials say Charity Pera, 14, and Abigail Borlek, 11, left early Thursday evening but didn’t return when they were supposed to by 7 p.m. An hour later family members contacted police and went to look for the girls. They found the ATV and helmets the girls were wearing, but no one was around.

Deputies say Pera and Borlek were located around 4:20 Friday morning and are back home. Their conditions and other details are unknown at this time. 

CASPIAN, MI--   A Caspian woman with dementia is safe, after she walked away from her home Thursday afternoon.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 12:20 p.m. that the 62-year-old woman had wandered from her house on East Caspian Avenue. Deputies initiated a search, along with Iron County Search and Rescue, Michigan State Police, the Iron River Police Department, and the Caspian Police Department.

CRYSTAL FALLS, MI--   A Crystal Falls man already accused of killing a horse has now been charged with attempted murder. 

Luke Wool, 18, is also charged with felony firearms, discharging a firearm in or at a building, and two counts of killing/torturing an animal.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office was called to a Crystal Falls Township residence March 16 on a report that a horse had been shot and injured.  A couple of bullets also penetrated a house near the horse barn.

Deputies say the incident was connected to the death of a horse on February 24.

IRONWOOD, MI--   Officials are investigating an airplane accident at the Gogebic-Iron County Airport.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Friday just before 10 a.m. A single-engine private plane with one occupant was conducting touch-and-go maneuvers when a doe and fawn ran across the runway. The pilot veered to avoid the deer and damaged a wheel assembly on the plane.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Investigation into the accident has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration. 

CRYSTAL FALLS TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Iron County Sheriff’s Office has released additional information regarding a shooting in Crystal Falls Township that injured a horse.

On Thursday afternoon Iron County Central Dispatch received a call there had been a shooting and a horse had been shot. Another call indicated two bullets had entered a home near the incident.

CRYSTAL FALLS TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Iron County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting involving a horse.

Central Dispatch received a call around 12:50 p.m. Thursday indicating a shooting had happened in Crystal Falls Township and a horse had been shot and injured.  Two bullets had apparently entered a home near the same location.

Deputies arrived on the scene and arrested an individual involved in the shooting.

The incident remains under investigation.

State Police from the Iron Mountain Post are assisting in the case.  

IRON COUNTY, MI--   Two people were involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident in Iron County 

Wednesday.

Sheriff’s deputies were called around 9:20 a.m. to County Road 424 near Alpha.  They say a pickup with two occupants was eastbound when it hit a patch of black ice, left the roadway, and rolled over.

The driver and passenger were taken to Aspirus Hospital in Iron River with minor injuries. 

The Alpha Mastodon and Crystal Falls fire departments assisted at the scene.  

IRON COUNTY, MI--   A 14-year-old boy was the fatality in a traffic accident on US-2 near Wild River Road Wednesday.  

An SUV rear-ended an Iron County Road Commission grader that was clearing the shoulder of the road.  The driver, Angela Esbrook, 35, of Iron River, and two passengers—a 12-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy—were injured and taken to Aspirus Hospital.  Another passenger—Justin Henschel, 14—was pronounced dead at the scene.  The operator of the grader received only minor injuries. 

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.  

IRON COUNTY, MI--    One person was killed when a vehicle hit a road grader in Iron County Wednesday.

Sheriff’s officials say it happened just before 8 a.m. on US-2 near Wild River Road.  They say an SUV rear-ended the grader, which was clearing the shoulder of the road. 

Three passengers in the vehicle were injured and taken to Aspirus Hospital. A fourth passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.  The operator of the grader sought his own treatment for minor injuries. 

The accident closed a portion of US-2 for about seven hours. 

IRON COUNTY, MI--   No serious injuries are reported, following a two-vehicle accident in Iron County. 

Sheriff’s officials say the accident happened Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. on Bates Amasa Road.  A car reportedly pulled out of a driveway and into the path of a southbound pickup truck.  Both vehicles ended up in the ditch. 

The driver of the car was taken to Aspirus Hospital in Iron River with minor injuries.  The driver of the pickup wasn’t injured. 

Officials say roads were icy and snow covered at the time of the incident.
