fatal motorcycle accident

ST. IGNACE, MI--   A Curtis man has pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash last May.

Andrew Loehr, 26, and a passenger were riding a motorcycle down Sandtown Road in Portage Township when he hit a vehicle. His passenger, Stephanie Maynard, 32, of Gould City, was killed in the crash.

Loehr was charged with operating while intoxicated, causing death and being a habitual offender, 3rd offense. He pleaded guilty Monday to operating while intoxicated, causing death.

Sentencing is set for December 8 in Mackinac County Circuit Court.

ST. IGNACE, MI--   A Curtis man has been arrested in connection with a fatal Mackinac County motorcycle accident.  

Andrew Loehr, 26, was driving the motorcycle on Sandtown Road in Portage Township May 23 when he struck a vehicle that was turning into a driveway. His passenger, Stephanie Maynard, 32, of Gould City, was killed in the crash. The driver of the vehicle wasn’t injured.

Loehr has been charged with operating while intoxicated, causing death and being a habitual offender, 3rd offense.

SPALDING TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Ontonagon man has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Menominee County. 

Friday around 2 p.m. sheriff’s deputies were called to US-2 just east of Pine Street in Spalding Township. They say Keith Guzek, 53, was eastbound when a deer jumped into the roadway and knocked him off his motorcycle. He wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Guzek was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Spalding Township Fire Department, Hermansville Rescue Squad, and county and Michigan State Police accident investigators assisted at the scene.

UPDATE, 5/25 11 am--   State Police from the St. Ignace Post say Stephanie Maynard, 32, of Gould City was killed in the crash. The motorcycle driver, Andrew Loehr, 26, of  Gould City remains in critical condition at UPHS Marquette. The driver of the car, Hunter Hutchinson, 21, of Newberry was not injured.

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person is dead and another in critical condition following a motorcycle accident in Mackinac County. 

UPDATE, 3/24/17:  The motorcycle driver has been identified as Kody Wayne Lenon, 23, of Marquette.

MARQUETTE TOWSHIP, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says a motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday.

Just after 2 p.m. deputies were called to County Road 550 just south of Little Presque Isle. It appears the driver was southbound when he lost control of the motorcycle and hit some trees.

Officials say the crash likely happened earlier in the day.

ATLANTA, MI (AP)--   A northern Michigan woman has been sentenced to a year of probation and fined $915 as a result of a crash that killed state Rep. Peter Pettalia. 

Montmorency District Judge Benjamin Bolser also sentenced 59-year old Nancy Lunn of Fairview on Friday to pay court costs.

The 61-year-old Presque Isle Republican was riding a motorcycle in September to Lansing for a legislative session when Lunn's pickup truck turned into his lane in front of him. He was wearing a helmet when he hit the truck broadside.

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   A Norway man involved in a fatal motorcycle crash in Dickinson County June 3rd has been sentenced. 

Michael Delacruz, 39, was accused of failing to yield as he drove an SUV across US-141 on Breitung Cutoff Road in Quinnesec.  A motorcycle driven by William Doyle, 63, of Pembine, Wisconsin was unable to avoid rear-ending the SUV.  Doyle was killed in the crash.

IRON RIVER TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Iron County man has been killed in a motorcycle accident.  

State Police from the Iron Mountain post say the crash happened Sunday around 9:15 p.m. on Gibb City Road near Powell Mill Road in Iron River Township. 

They say Gary Sarafini, 48, of Iron River was driving southbound on his motorcycle when it left the roadway and ejected him.  Sarafini was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iron County Medical Examiner. 

HAIGHT TOWNSHIP, MI--   A man has died in a motorcycle accident in Ontonagon County. 

Troopers from the Wakefield Post say a motorcyclist was discovered by a passing driver Wednesday around 4 p.m. in an area of trees off of Bond Falls Road near Forest Road 5333 in Haight Township.  The driver of the motorcycle—identified as Daryl Neuman, 64, of Bruce Crossing—was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say Neuman was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. 

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.  

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Houghton man has been killed in a motorcycle accident.   

State Police from the Calumet Post say the incident happened Sunday around 5:30 p.m. in Portage Township between Dodgeville and Huron Town.  James Mewborn, 52, was test-driving a 2001 Kawasaki when he apparently suffered a medical emergency.  The bike ran off the roadway and struck a ditch. 

Troopers say neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. 

The Houghton Police Department, Michigan Tech Public Safety, and Huron Town Fire Department assisted at the scene.
