Delta County man jailed for assault

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba man is facing criminal charges for the second time in three years. 

Michael Scott Jones, 22, was arrested Thursday on six charges, including assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and fleeing and eluding an officer.  He remains lodged in the Delta County Jail.

Jones was also arrested in 2012 for home invasion and felonious assault.  He was sentenced to 11 months in jail.

Name of alleged Palmer shooter released

MARQUETTE, MI--   State Police have released the name of the man accused of shooting a family member in Palmer over the weekend.  

Richard Lehto, 52, is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, firearm usage under the influence and domestic violence-3rd offense.

A firearm was reportedly discharged during an argument Saturday between Lehto and his 18-year-old son, Zachary.  The younger Lehto was taken to Marquette General Hospital and underwent emergency surgery.  He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Dollar Bay woman dies from injuries sustained in assault

HOUGHTON, MI--   The victim in a Dollar Bay domestic violence incident last week has died.   

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office says 27-year-old Senaz Nezami died Thursday at Marquette General Hospital from injuries she received in the assault December 8.  Her husband, Nima Nassiri, 34, was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and lodged in the Houghton County Jail on a $5 million bond.

Name released in Dollar Bay assault

HOUGHTON, MI--   The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the man arrested for domestic violence in Dollar Bay over the weekend.  

Deputies say Nima Nassiri, 34, is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.  He remains lodged in the Houghton County Jail on a $5 million bond. 

Nassiri is accused of assaulting a 27-year-old woman Sunday night.  She was taken to Portage Hospital, then transferred to Marquette General Hospital for treatment.
