Young driver hits tree with vehicle in Crystal Falls Township

CRYSTAL FALLS TOWNSHIP, MI--   A 12-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after a vehicle hit a tree on property in Iron County. 

Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post responded Tuesday around 6:35 p.m. to a private residence on US-141 in Crystal Falls Township.  They say a 15-year-old male was operating a motor vehicle when he lost control and hit a tree.  A 12-year-old female was taken to Aspirus Hospital in Iron River with injuries. 

Additional passengers, consisting of an 11- , 10- , and 5-year-old, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. 

State Police say seat belts were used by all occupants and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
