NEGAUNEE, MI--   The United States Luge Association has canceled the World Luge Cup in Negaunee next year.

The Upper Peninsula Luge Club says it’s shocked and saddened by the announcement, which was made Monday.  It says Lucy Hill has undergone several upgrades since the group first made its bid in 2014 to host the World Cup.  The natural track is 25 years old.

The club says it will now focus on its domestic programs and strive to keep Lucy Hill one of the most budget and family-friendly winter activities in Marquette County.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
