Women's March comes to Marquette Sunday

MARQUETTE, MI--   The City of Marquette is marking the one-year anniversary of the Women’s March by hosting another event this weekend.

Women’s March Michigan says last year’s event created an unprecedented movement against oppressive policies. This year, the agenda is #PowertothePolls.

Brooke Tharp is co-president of Women for Women at Northern Michigan University, which promotes gender equality and empowerment for female students. She says people of all demographics will be coming together Sunday to spread hope.

“A lot of allies for women and people of color and the LGBT community will be marching, people from the community will be marching, a lot of students from Northern’s campus will be marching,” she says. “There are many organizers in the Marquette area who are very passionate about these beliefs and are looking to fight the problems in Marquette and around the world.”

Tharp and others are scheduled to speak at the march, which will focus on getting out to vote and being a part of the legislative process.

Those who are interested will gather at the Marquette Commons beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday.
