MARQUETTE, MI-- Dozens of young women will explore the field of construction at an event at Northern Michigan University Friday.
About 120 female students in grades 7-12 will attend Women in Construction at the Jacobetti Complex. They’ll interact with and learn from women who are already in the industry. Each attendee will create a 3-D model using computer-aided design software, build a toolbox in the workshop, and cut a decorative metal accessory for the toolbox using a plasma cutting system.
Officials say the event will let the young women experience an option they might not consider in the course of their typical career exploration.
Women in Construction begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Jacobetti Complex.
