Woman jailed for carjacking in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Sault Ste. Marie woman has been arrested for an attempted carjacking in Marquette.

The evening of February 11 Marquette Police responded to a 911 call of a woman trying to get into vehicles on the 500 block of South Front Street. Officers say

Cassandra McKelvie, 29, allegedly grabbed the steering wheel of an occupied vehicle and tried to pull out the driver, who was able to remove the keys from the ignition.

McKelvie is charged with carjacking, assault or assault and battery, and breaking and entering – illegal entry. She remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $45,000 bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
