Woman found dead in Ironwood Township

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI--   Gogebic County officials are investigating the death of a Wisconsin woman.

Wednesday around 7:25 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched in an attempt to locate a 65-year-old 

Woodruff resident. Information received from Wisconsin authorities led the Sheriff’s Office to start searching the areas of Copper Peak and Black River Harbor in Ironwood Township.

Around 8 a.m. located the missing woman’s vehicle in the parking lot at Black River Harbor. They requested the assistance of the Gogebic County Search and Rescue Team.

Shortly after 10 a.m. search teams located the woman in the area of Rainbow Falls. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was taken to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital for further investigation.

Neither her name nor the cause of death are being released at this time. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
