Woman dies in Alger County traffic accident

CHATHAM, MI--   A Skandia woman has been killed in a two-vehicle crash in Chatham.

State Police from the Negaunee Post were called around 7:50 Tuesday night to the intersection of M-94 and M-67.  They say a vehicle driven by Peggy Sue Larsen, 50, of Skandia was westbound on 94 when she slowed or stopped at the stop sign on 67, then proceeded into the intersection.  She drove into the path of a northbound vehicle, which hit Larsen’s vehicle directly in the driver’s side door.  Both vehicles went off the road and hit an electric pole.

Larsen was killed in the crash.  Neither the driver of the other vehicle nor a passenger were injured.

The electric pole had to be replaced.

Assisting at the scene were troopers from the Gladstone Post, the Munising City Police Department, Rapid River Fire and First Responders, Alger County EMS, and UPPCO personnel.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
