Woman arrested for OWI following accident

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Calumet woman is in custody, following a single-vehicle crash in Calumet Township. 

Michigan State Police say the accident happened Sunday around 12:15 a.m. on US-41 near Haus Street in Kearsarge.  A 56-year-old woman was southbound on the highway when her vehicle went off the roadway and struck a utility pole. 

During the investigation troopers determined alcohol was a factor in the crash.  The driver was arrested and lodged at the Houghton County Jail for operating while intoxicated. 

The woman suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
