Weather cancels Marquette event

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette snowboarding event scheduled for this weekend has been canceled due to the weather.

The Downtown Showdown Rail Jam was supposed to take place Saturday downtown, but forecasted above-freezing temperatures and rain have forced officials to postpone the event until next year.  Marquette Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Mona Lang says the amount of snow that would have to be hauled to the 100 and 200 blocks of North Front Street won’t hold up to those conditions.

An alternate event, the Marquette Mountain Double Down Compound Showdown, will be held at Marquette Mountain Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.  For more information call 225-1155.
