DETROIT, MI (AP)-- As a new year dawns, a Detroit university wants to bring worthy words back from the brink.
Knavery, you say? Well the word for "a roguish or mischievous act" is among 10 phrases that comprise Wayne State University's annual Word Warriors list.
The 2015 edition of words worth reviving and released Monday also includes "caterwaul," which means a shrill or wailing noise; "obambulate," meaning walk about; and "flapdoodle," or nonsense.
While this list giveth back to culture, another taketh away. Word Warriors comes days after Sault Ste. Marie's Lake Superior State University released its List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness.
That list seeks to scrap a dirty dozen, including "bae," ''foodie," and "hack."
Both universities accept nominations online.
