Water bill calculations change in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   The City of Marquette is changing how it calculates water utility bills.

The changes are part of the Johnson Controls contract, which includes automated metering infrastructure. Previously, bills were calculated using a charge per 100 Cubic Feet (CCF). Now they’ll be charged per 1,000 gallons, or per kilo-gallon (KGAL). The base rates will remain unchanged.

The bills of water users who don’t pay property tax or payment-in-lieu of tax will change from $5.45 per CCF to $7.29 per KGAL. All other water users will go from $5 per CCF to $6.68 per KGAL. And all sewer customers will go from $7.70 per CCF to $10.29 per KGAL.

The conversion will take effect with this month’s billing cycle. City officials say it will not result in an increase for an average residential customer.
