Watch out when you watch moose

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Department of Natural Resources says seeing moose in the wild is exciting, but people need to keep safety in mind when stopping along roadsides.

DNR District Law Supervisor Lieutenant Pete Wright says he’s had recurring concerns reported about drivers stopping to look at moose and other wildlife.

He says if you experience a moose sighting you should pull your vehicle completely out of traffic to park; look behind your car for oncoming vehicles before opening your doors; remain aware of where you and others are standing while watching or photographing wildlife; don’t rely on motorists to see and avoid you; and respect moose and other wildlife as the wild animals they are. Watch or photograph from a safe distance and do not approach or harass them.
