Walk MS 2014 this Sunday at the Superior Dome

MARQUETTE, MI--   People are walking for Multiple Sclerosis this weekend in Marquette.

The 2014 Walk MS is a fundraising effort to help find a cure for the disease and help those who have it.

Nancy Beukema is a volunteer with the Upper Peninsula Service Council for the national MS Society Michigan Chapter.

“The Walk MS here in Marquette is to bring everyone together that either has MS, their family, or individuals that are interested in supporting the MS Society and the research and educational programs that they do,” she says.

This year’s Walk MS goal is $10,991.  Beukema says since heat is also a big problem for those with multiple sclerosis, money raised will also be used to buy and install air conditioners for those who can’t afford them.

Walk MS Marquette will be held Sunday at the Superior Dome.  Registration begins at noon.  An opening ceremony will be held at 12:45, followed by the walk at 1 p.m.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
