Volunteers sought to serve as Michigan campground hosts

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Officials are looking for volunteers to serve as campground hosts next year at Michigan state parks, recreation areas and rustic state forest campgrounds.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says hosts are responsible for 30 hours of service per week. Duties include helping campers find their sites, answering questions about the park, planning campground activities and light maintenance. In exchange, hosts get to stay at the campgrounds for free.

Individuals and couples may apply for host positions, which begin as early as April and last through October.
They must provide their own camping equipment, food and other personal items.

A training session is scheduled for June 7-8 at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center in Roscommon.
