Vandalism reported on Marquette County snowmobile trails

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Michigan DNR is asking for help in identifying the person who vandalized two snowmobile trails in Marquette County.

Signs were knocked down, run over, or otherwise damaged along Trail No. 8 and Trail No. 5 in the Champion area over the past weekend.  Signs will need to be replaced over at least nine miles of trail.

“Damaging trail signs is cause for concern for safety reasons and because the signs and installation are expensive,” said Ron Yesney, DNR Upper Peninsula trails coordinator. “Unfortunately, repairing the damage from this disruptive act will divert snowmobile program funding paid by snowmobilers away from maintenance of the trail system.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Report All Poaching line at 800-292-7800, or Lt. Pete Wright at the Marquette DNR office at 228-6561.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
