Utilities restoring power after storms

MARQUETTE, MI--   Thunderstorms have knocked out power to nearly 10,000 customers throughout the Upper Peninsula.

The storms crossed the U.P. Sunday night, producing strong winds and frequent lightning.

Upper Peninsula Power Company says only about 26 residences in its service area are affected.  Wisconsin-based WE Energies is trying to restore power to nearly 3,300 customers in Dickinson and Delta Counties. Cloverland Electric says about 6,600 residents in the Eastern and Central U.P. were affected as of last night.

Officials say don’t assume they know about your outage. Those without power should contact their local utility.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
