HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI-- A Houghton County organization has received money from USDA Rural Development.
The Quincy Mine Hoist Association has been given $200,000 to repair the railroad tram. The tram consists of 847 ties and track that were installed 13 years ago. The ties are now deteriorating and affecting the structural integrity of the cog-wheel complex.
Officials say the tram ride down the hill is part of the Quincy Mine Tour, which hosts about 30,000 annual visitors. They say the life of the replacement ties is expected to be around 50 years.
