UPSET nabs Sawyer man for growing marijuana

SAWYER, MI--   Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team have discovered a marijuana growing operation in Forsyth Township. 

Monday around 8 p.m. UPSET and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents executed a search warrant on Albatross Street at Sawyer.  They found the resident possessed a firearm illegally and was in violation of the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act.  A two-year-old girl was also present at the scene. 

The suspect was detained and subsequently released.  Charges are being sought through the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office.

Forsyth Township Police and Troopers from the Negaunee Post assisted with the search warrant.  Child Protective Services also responded to the scene. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
