Upper Peninsula environment is theme of event at university

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)--   A university in the Upper Peninsula is offering a daylong event to learn about the natural resources of the region.

Two environmental groups are sponsoring an event Saturday called Celebrate the U.P. Sault Ste. Marie. There will be speakers and hands-on opportunities at Lake Superior State University.

The Evening News in Sault Ste. Marie says the focus will be on water. There will be presentations on the status of the St. Marys River as well as the local tannery, invasive species and birds.

There will be kayak rides, a nature walk and biking. There is no cost to attend.
