UPPCO gives $100,000 to charities

MARQUETTE, MI--   Officials with Upper Peninsula Power Company say the utility gave more than $100,000 to U.P. charitable causes last year.

Spokesman Dave Forsberg says UPPCO provided direct grants and volunteer support to ten counties within its service territory.  Contributions were made in five primary categories: Arts and Culture; Community and Neighborhood Development; Education; Environment; and Human Services and Health.

Forsberg says UPPCO and its employees gave $43,097 to the 2015 United Way Campaign and also gave $2,665 worth of grants to charities that UPPCO employees and retirees volunteered their time for last year.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
