UPHS Marquette welcomes new CMO

MARQUETTE, MI--    U.P. Health System Marquette has a new Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. WaelKhouli comes from HealthEast Care System in St. Paul, MN, where he served as Medical Director of Care Management.

Early in his career Khouli provided primary care for patients at the Gwinn and Sawyer Medical Centers, now the Upper Great Lakes Family Health Centers.  He completed his internal medicine residency at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor and earned his medical degree at Damascus University Medical School in Damascus, Syria. He also holds a MBA from the Yale School of Management.

Outgoing CMO Dr. Thomas Noren will remain with UPHS part-time to lead the hospitals efforts into population health management.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
