UPHS-Marquette nurse vote set for Thursday

MARQUETTE, MI--   Registered nurses at UPHS-Marquette have set a date for a vote on a tentative contract with Duke LifePoint.

The agreement in principle was reached early Friday morning after a marathon bargaining session. Nurses had threatened to set a strike date if a contract was not settled by the end of the day Thursday.

President of the Marquette General RN Staff Council—Scott Balko—says membership meetings and a vote are scheduled for Thursday. They’ll take place in the Charcoal Room at NMU’s University Center at 8 a.m., 1:30 p.m.,

4:30 p.m., and 8 p.m.

Balko says a new contract will not take effect until it’s ratified by a majority of members.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
