MARQUETTE, MI-- The purchase of 37 acres of land for Marquette’s new hospital has been finalized.
UP Health System Marquette and the City completed the deal for the Roundhouse property Monday. Commissioners approved both the transaction and designation of the site as a Brownfield property last week. The purchase includes land between Baraga and Washington streets.
UPHS Marquette’s new campus will cost more than $300 million and will include a state-of-the-art, 265-bed hospital and 80,000 square-foot medical office building. Site and facility designs are nearly complete.
Officials say groundbreaking is slated for spring of 2016, and occupancy is targeted for late 2018.
The hospital will continue to occupy its current facilities until the new campus opens. Hospital officials say they’ll continue to work with the City and community to find uses for its current property.
