SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--    A teenager has been killed in an ATV accident in Sands Township.

State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched Saturday around 7:30 p.m. to a logging road near M-553 about a mile north of the Crossroads. They say the ATV was traveling on the road—called Honor Camp Trail—that goes through the woods between M-553 and the end of Silver Creek Road.

Two teens were riding in a side-by-side ATV when it went off the trail and up an embankment, causing it to roll over. The driver died at the scene of the crash; the passenger was not injured.

No names have yet been released.

Sands Township First Responders, Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies, and Marquette County Search & Rescue assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
