ESCANABA, MI--   Escanaba-area schools were on lockdown Wednesday, after someone made an unusual phone call to a local business.

Department of Public Safety officials say Tuesday night an unknown male made remarks about guns and schools to the business. No specific school, time, date, or intentions were relayed to the complainant, who felt it was in the best interest of the community to report the situation.

As a precaution officers met with school administrators and decided to initiate safety protocols at area schools. Law enforcement provided outside security.

Wednesday afternoon Escanaba Public Safety said an investigation into the matter has not produced any credible, tangible, or actionable threat, and schools have been advised to utilize their own protocols as they deem necessary.

The lockdown affected the Escanaba, Gladstone, Bark River, Mid-Peninsula, Big Bay de Noc, Holy Name, and Delta-Schoolcraft ISD school districts.
