UPDATE: Police respond to shots fired at Central Michigan University

UPDATE: 12:50 am, 3/3/18:    Shooting suspect in custody

The suspect in the shooting incident that happened on CMU’s campus is now in custody.

The suspect was seen and reported by an individual on a train passing through the north end of campus shortly after midnight. Law enforcement personnel responded and arrested the suspect without incident.

CMU President George E. Ross thanks the campus and surrounding community and many law enforcement personnel who came together to keep each other safe and apprehend the suspect.

MT. PLEASANT, MI (AP)--   School officials say police are responding to a report of shots fired at a residence hall at Central Michigan University. 

The university said Friday morning that the report concerns Campbell Hall on its campus in Mount Pleasant. The university says the suspect is still at large, and police are urging students to take shelter.

The Detroit Free Press reports two people are dead.

The city says the male suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

The school released the information on its Facebook page around 9:30 a.m. An automated phone message from the school also was sent to students Friday morning.
Central Michigan University has about 23,000 students in Mount Pleasant.
